In today’s rapidly evolving and interconnected business world, the idea of going in alone is becoming increasingly obsolete. The challenges posed by technological advancements, globalisation, and shifting consumer expectations demand a whole new approach. That is where ecosystem partners come in.

Mr Pawel Workiewicz is Vice President Business Development Division in APAC & MEA at Comarch, a Bridge Alliance technology partner and CXO Forum 2024 Platinum sponsor. In this interview with Ken Wee, our SVP Partnership & New Business, Pawel shares more about what Comarch does and how the company’s offerings and innovation help to address the most important challenges facing the telecom sector today.

Ken: Hi, Pawel. Could you please tell us about yourself and your company, please?

Pawel: Hi. My name is Pawel Workiewicz, and I’m Vice President, Comarch in Telecommunication Division. And I’m responsible for building and executing business strategies, as well as driving business growth in the Middle East and Asia. I have been working in the telecommunication industry nearly 20 years. During this period, I had the opportunity to manage development of all those products and oversee multiple telecom projects around the world.

At Comarch, we are a global software house that specialises in delivering and integrating IT solutions. Since our founding in 1993, we have been providing OSS and BSS solutions to telecom operators around the world. Currently, we have more than 6000 employees, 83 offices around the world, and thousands of successfully realised projects.

Our solutions, addresses a wide range of telecommunication needs, including infrastructure management, resource virtualisation, billing, customer base management, vertical market monetization, and IoT.

Ken: So why did Comarch decide to become a Bridge Alliance technology partner?

Pawel: Yes. Definitely. We decided to become a Bridge Alliance partner to realize our strategic goal of empowering business with cutting-edge IT solutions.

This partnership allows Comarch to collaborate with leading telecoms. And we believe that thanks to this partnership, we can combine our global knowledge with your extensive network to foster innovation and create value for customers and operators.

Ken: In your opinion, what are the most important challenges facing the telecom sector today and how do your solutions help to address them?

Pawel: Okay. So, yes, definitely. Telecommunications sector is facing several critical challenges. In my opinion, one of the most important challenges is monetisation of investments in infrastructure like 5G or fibre networks. Telco operators face the task of generating new revenue from these new networks. However, it is quite difficult to generate the revenue from standard telecommunications services like simply connectivity. So the main objective is to go beyond standard revenue streams, and offer new services for new verticals.

Another critical challenge is operational efficiency. As networks become more and more complex, with the integration of new technologies like 5G, IoT and edge computing, telecoms needs to manage that network more efficiently while keeping still, of course, costs down.

At Comarch, we are trying to help operators in addressing these challenges. Our OSS, BSS and IoT systems support operators in monetising 5G investments. For instance, by enabling faster service deployment and facilitating the creation of new business models such as Network-as-a-Service and marketplace platforms. And when it comes to operational efficiency, we also provide AI-powered tools for real-time network management and automation.

The goal is to help operators optimise resources, reduce costs, and deliver premium services. To sum up, Comarch supports operators to overcome the challenges of evolving networks. Moreover, we support operators in unlocking new revenue streams.

Ken: What are the latest innovations in your product portfolio that might interest telcos?

Pawel: In general, our latest innovations are focused on helping telecom operators to monetise their investments in the network. Comarch offers solutions that allows operators to unlock new revenue streams. For instance, we enable operators to offer private 5G networks and network slicing. Such functionalities, help operators to provide detailed solutions for industries like e-health, smart manufacturing, utilities and smart cities.

Moreover, it allows creating opportunities for premium services. We also investing in AI technology. Our solution is equipped with different AI algorithms, which are simply intended to improve the efficiency of telecommunication processes.

We also support the development of marketplace platforms to allow operators of our 5G connected services such as IoT, smart cities and connected vehicles. This empower operators to enter into new vertical markets and offer more than just connectivity.

Ken: So what do you think sets Comarch apart from the competition and what value do you bring to the table?

Pawel: Yeah. So with over 30 years of experience, Comarch offers a comprehensive portfolio of OSS, BSS and IoT systems. These systems streamline operations, cut costs and enhance the customer experience. All our products have been developed from scratch by us.

So in general, we didn’t acquire a company from the market to extend our portfolio of products. Thanks to this, our products are built based on the same framework, and are natively integrated. From the customer perspective, no matter which modules from OSS or BSS portfolio they would like to use, they just have to launch the UI, which assures smooth and transparent access to the data from different domains.

On the other hand, we are also following open APIs, part of it. Thanks to which, our solution can be easily nested into the customer telco ecosystem. What is also very important, and what we are repeating internally; innovation is in our DNA. Comarch is a spinoff from one of the most important technological universities in Poland and it was founded by Professor Janusz Filipiak. From the very beginning, our goal has been to stay at the forefront of innovation. And thanks to that, we are not only meeting today’s market needs, but we are also ready to shape the future of telecommunication.

Ken: Thank you so much for a very interesting conversation.

Pawel: Thank you very much.

Ken: That was Pawel from Comarch. Thank you for watching ‘be’ in conversation.
