Navigating APAC’s Fragmented IoT Landscape Whitepaper

150 150 Ellyne Phneah

Much has been said about the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) to transform the way we live, work, and play. From smart homes to smart cars, smart factories to smart cities, tech ecosystem players and governments have painted the IoT dream in vivid terms.

But to unlock the potential of this technology and unleash its benefits, IoT products and platforms need to work across borders. There’s little economic incentive for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to pour millions into research and development only to limit a product to a single market. Besides, connectivity—the ethos of this new digital age in which IoT plays a significant role— entails working seamlessly with a device, system, or person in any geography.

In this whitepaper, we delve further into the issues that hinder seamless IoT integration and deployment across APAC today and discuss possible solutions. We believe that these gaps are not unbridgeable—but they are significant. Addressing them will require multi-sector, multi-market innovation, and coordination. We also explore the following:

  • Realising the potential of IoT
  • Addressing fragmentation by focusing on customer use cases
  • Can standardisation be achieved?
  • Why unification of the IoT market requires collaboration between OEMs, telco operators and alliances

Note: The contents of the whitepaper were covered in our recent be in conversation webinar held in conjunction with our member operators, partners and customers: Navigating APAC’s Fragmented IoT Landscape
